Soaking it up at the Spa

Silverado Resort and Spa

By ML Hilton

(NAPA, CA) — A Swedish massage is just another name for pure pleasure if you ask me. And, I think I may have had the best one of my spa-going career recently at Silverado Resort. Darling Danielle made the most of my too-short 50 minute rub down and though I am always left wanting more of that enjoyment, I was content to spend the next hour basking in the last of fall’s warm sunshine in the private outdoor whirlpool. Since it is women-only you can go clothing optional, but don’t ask which one I did.

I don’t know if it went farther to sooth my sore and poorly worked muscles or to set right my mental attitude as I hid from the world and my responsibilities behind the doors to the women’s spa. I sat for a few minutes in the fragrant steam room and then toasted myself in the sauna before my massage.

Ultimately, unwilling to give up my robe for street clothes, I relaxed in the women’s lounge with tea and cool pineapple infused water while I read the newspaper. It was that point that I was wondering if they had an opening for just one more treatment before the end of the day. I was saved from turning myself into a jellyfish, only because I had reservations at the Royal Oak that I didn’t want to miss. One more treatment and I would have headed to my luxurious room, crawled beneath the cool covers and likely napped till morning which would have been a terrible shame, because I would have missed an amazing meal.

I will find a way to get back to Silverado’s spa. The spa is available for the use of guests and members of Silverado, so as a local my access is somewhat limited. But, there are a couple of ways to legitimately be a part of the Silverado experience including great packages that would make nice gifts to your golf-playing male companions (they just happen to have spa components for golf “widows”).

Danielle told me that her favorite spa treatment to give is the Tui-Na Massage. This intriguing massage is done with loose fitting clothes (provided) and is a mixture of stretching, vigorous and energetic massage, and acupressure to help affect “the flow of vital energy.” Personally, I need as much vital energy as I can get in my life.
