The Hall winery in St. Helena has a rich and colorful history in the Napa Valley dating back to the 19th century. With its acquisition by Kathryn and Craig Hall in 2003, a new chapter began for the storied winery, one that preserves its place in the annals of Napa Valley wine history yet adds a modern-day dimension of excellence in winemaking and an unparalleled visitor experience. The original stone winery, which still stands on the property today, was built by New England sea captain William Peterson in 1885. The best-known and longest tenured owner was the Napa Valley Cooperative Winery, which, under the direction of renowned winemaker and Napa Valley pioneer Charles Forni, produced 40 percent of all Napa Valley wines in the late 1930s.
Today, as Hall, the winery is dedicated to the production of ultra-premium Bordeaux varietal wines from Kathryn and Craig Hall's vineyards in Napa Valley and Alexander Valley. They have remodeled the tasting room, where visitors can try Hall wines, relax in the arbor-covered courtyards and take in the original works of art and sculpture from the Halls' collection.
