Rutherford Dust

In the heart of Napa Valley is Rutherford - a little town with a big reputation and the home of Beaulieu Vineyard Winery. The secret to its success is something called "Rutherford Dust." Our revered founding winemaker, André Tchelistcheff, said, "It takes Rutherford dust to grow great Cabernet."

DESCRIPTION   OUR WINES   VISITING US

Beauliew Vineyards, RutherfordThe roots of Beaulieu Vineyard were firmly planted in Napa Valley by Frenchman Georges de Latour, a native of Bordeaux, in 1900. Within a few years he purchased 128 acres of prime vineyard land adjacent to his home in Rutherford, then later bought more land near Oakville. Today these vineyards, which are still called BV #1 and BV #2, are at the heart of Beaulieu Vineyards production of Private Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon and Rutherford Cabernet Sauvignon.

De Latour proved to be highly visionary with regard to the business of winemaking. He developed a relationship with the Catholic Church to provide altar wine, thereby allowing Beaulieu to legally stay in operation during Prohibition. His genius was proven again in 1938 when he hired a young Russo-French enologist, Andre Tchelistcheff. Andres influence was immediate and dramatic- he put Beaulieu on the map by producing a series of award-winning Cabernets, as well as developing techniques and technologies that are used by many of todays winemakers including Joel Aiken, our current Vice-President of Winemaking.

Located in the town of Rutherford, Beaulieu Vineyard welcomes guests from around the world with a glass of wine and a friendly smile. Let our knowledgeable staff answer your questions, show you around our historic facility and serve you our award-winning wines. Our hours are 10-5 daily (excluding major holidays). Be sure to stop by our Wine and Gift Shop and inquire as to the unique special events and experiences we can provide for you. (phone: 707.967.5233)
