Since 1977, Grgich Hills Estate wines have been sought after by consumers around the world. Our wines are always balanced and elegant, and known for their quality, consistently, and longevity. Great wine is made in the vineyard, and so we bring the earth and vines in harmony naturally to produce pure, healthy grapes. All of our vineyards are farmed organically, and two-thirds goes even further with bio dynamic farming - an agricultural philosophy that treats the Earth as a living being and utilizes nature's basic life forces, natural compost and nutrient preparations, and cosmic cycles to bring about balance between the grapevines and the Earth. In the cellar, we use minimal intervention to create the purest expression of those grapes, babying our wines from start to finish. Our wines are aged in barrel and bottle until they are fully integrated and complete, and only then are released. We're proud to offer the following wines: CHARDONNAY - This has been our flagship wine since Mike Grgich won the famous Paris Tasting in 1976 with his 1973 Chateau Montelena Chardonnay. Crisp, rich, and food-friendly, this wine never undergoes malolactic fermentation, so the varietal's natural characteristics are preserved. FUMÉ BLANC - Our Sauvignon Blanc spends just a few months in neutral French barrels, which provides structure and spice without masking the varietal's explosive fruit flavors. Ripe pink grapefruit and citrus are balanced by crisp acidity, resulting in a wonderfully enjoyable wine. ZINFANDEL - Zinfandel has always been a favorite of ours, so we were extremely gratified a few years ago when the grape's origin was found to be Mike Grgich's native Croatia! Our Zin balances jammy fruit with spicy pepper, yet is surprisingly elegant and refined. MERLOT - No soft, flabby Merlot here - our version is rich and concentrated, with wonderful structure and good acid/tannin balance. Flavors of black plums, spice, and chocolate lead into a long, savory finish. CABERNET SAUVIGNON - Our best-known red, our Cabernet Sauvignon consistently garners top awards and wide critical acclaim. Like all of our wines, it's balanced and food-friendly, with rich flavors of black currant, cedar, and spice. VIOLETTA - We only make this late-harvest, botrytis-affected dessert wine when Mother Nature cooperates, but the wait is worth it! Flavors of apricots, peaches, honey, and butterscotch explode in the mouth, and the finish is long, clean, and crisp. A perfect end to any meal. |  |
