SEQUIOA GROVE CURRENT RELEASES: | 2002 Semper V Napa Valley Red Wine " This is only the second time we have produced Semper V. The last time was in 1999 which was a fantastic vintage--and this one is no exception." - Michel Trujillo Semper V is short for Semper virens, the Latin name for the giant Sequoia trees that dominate our property. Our Winemaker, Mike Trujillo, and our founder, Jim Allen, agreed only to make Semper V from the best vintages and 2002 was one of those years. The grapes come mostly from Sequoia Grove's own estate vineyards in Rutherford. Three bottle purchase limit | | 2003 Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon "Our '02 Cab was a forward California Cab, it was a powerhouse. The '03 harvest, however, varied so much compared to the previous year the '03 Cab naturally followed suit: It's closer to our Bordeaux style which gives it more elegance, balance and finesse. Being bolder with the fruit and more subtle with the tannins has made it very approachable. It's soft, rich, silky and decadent" - Michel Trujillo Deep garnet in color with aromas of ripe cherry and blackberry with a little bit of cranberry. The fruit intertwines lovingly with the oak, hints of which can be found in aromas of clove, black pepper and a touch of cigar box. Round in the mouth with soft, supple tannins and well-integrated acid, the weight of the wine is delicate and full of finesse but with a silky, long finish. This wine pairs well with many food dishes on your everyday menu. Some of our favorites are Roasted Chicken with Balsamic Vinaigrette or Mushroom Burgers with Garlic Aioli. | | 2003 Rutherford Reserve Cabernet Sauvignon "A tougher vintage meant we worked hard from the vineyard to the bottle to deliver our no compromise, flagship wine." - Michael Trujillo With a deep, dusky dark-red color, the wine has expressive, aromas of characteristic Rutherford dust, black cherry, currant and herbs, with intriguing red cherry cocoa powder and dried herb notes. The flavor components of the Bordeaux blend have a rare complexity. The wine's fruit has juicy, forward flavors in the mouth, with notes of sweet oak vanilla and cocoa. This becomes lush, ripe tannins and balanced acidity, Sequoia Grove's signature on the palate. With a soft, silky texture and rich mouthfeel, this wine is more approachable than the 2002 release. | | 2005 Carneros Napa Valley Chardonnay "It's not often you get quantity and quality but this harvest was amazing."--Michael Trujillo Pale yellow in color, this wine has an immediate hit to the nose of white peaches. More subtle nutty hints of toasted almonds and cinnamon interplay deliciously with lemon and pear fruit notes. A silky richness with a touch of creamy vanilla washes over the tongue and the sip ends with a well integrated acid backbone that invites another sip. |
