| The Newton Vineyard Wine Portfolio is divided into three tiers, Icon, represented by the signature Spring Mountain Bordeaux-style blend, The Puzzle, Unfiltered, site-influenced, meticulously made, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot, and Red Label, fruit-forward and approachable Chardonnay and Claret. THE PUZZLE The Puzzle, Newton’s iconic red Bordeaux blend, exemplifies the drive to stand apart. Individual microblocks on the Spring Mountain estates, 112 in all, are picked at the point of optimal flavor development, hand-sorted, and vinified separately in the custom winery facility designed expressly for handling very small lots. The lots are tasted rigorously and their potential noted for the final blend, with only the best lots designated for The Puzzle. Like a puzzle, the result must be greater than the sum of its parts. The Puzzle changes from vintage to vintage with the final blend determined by the winemaker at assemblage. UNFILTERED Newton Vineyard Unfiltered wines, Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Merlot are the wines most closely identified with the heritage and history of the estate. The winery is recognized as an American pioneer of unfiltered wines, a philosophy that adds complexity to the winemaking process and demands meticulousness and attention to detail, but maximizes all the subtle characters of the fruit. RED LABEL Brilliant California fruit to the forefront is the hallmark of Newton Red Label wines. Sourced from Newton’s estate vineyards and other Napa, Sonoma and coastal vineyards these wines are made in the Newton tradition to showcase the purity of fruit. A perfect everyday luxury, Newton Chardonnay is all about lively character and purity of fruit. A fresh expression of the varietal, delicate aromas of white flowers, crisp apple, and toasted bread translate to rich fruit flavor on the palate. A burst of freshness unfolds with flavors of citrus, pear, and apricot. A subtle presence of oak evolves into crisp acidity on the finish. LIBRARY WINES Our Newton Vineyard library wines are rare vintages carefully cellared in our caves until they reach the peak of development. These wines trace a legacy of quality widely recognized by wine critics. In fact, Robert Parker, Jr., has praised Newton Vineyard for being among the first to hire famed Bordeaux consultant Michel Rolland, and notes that Rolland inspired the next generation of brilliant Newton winemakers. "The overall style of the wine," says Parker, "is one built on European elegance and longevity." --The Wine Advocate, December 2007. | |
